Following the story of big-hearted Tracy Turnball in 1960s America, whose dream is to dance on a national TV show, Hairspray is a truly uplifting theatrical experience which can be enjoyed by all of the family!

Based on the original 1988 film production, Hairspray has since been adapted into an award winning Broadway show and another successful film adaptation in 2007. Starring Olivier award-winning Michael Bull as Edna Turnbald and featuring an incredible musical score which includes all of the much-loved hits, such as You Can’t Stop the Beat, The Nicest Kids in Town and Welcome to the 60s, you will be transported to the swinging 60s with this feel-good smash-hit musical!

Plot

Set in 1962 Baltimore, a turbulent yet changing time in American history, sunny, plus-sized Tracy Turnball is determined to make it on the Corny Collins show to not only pursue her dancing dream, but also win the heart of the show’s presenter, teenage heart-throb Link Larkin.

Despite not fitting the mould, Tracy learns how to groove from some of her African American friends in detention and astonishingly achieves her dream of appearing on the show. Transforming from a nobody into a star almost overnight, Tracy challenges the status quo in more ways than one with her newfound fame.

Ticket prices range from £19.25 to £209.00 and vary slightly depending on which day you go; they are a bit more expensive on a Friday and Saturday for example. The London Coliseum is a huge theatre with a capacity of 2339 seats. The auditorium is divided into the Stalls, Dress Circle, Upper Circle and the Balcony. The best seats in the house can be found in the Dress Circle close to the railing and in the centre of the Stalls.  

Manchester

Hairspray Manchester ticket prices start at £13 and the most expensive tickets are £82. The Palace Theatre Manchester is split into the Stalls, the Circle and The Grand Tier. The most premium seats in the theatre can be found in the Stalls, close to the stage and the dress circle, close to the railing.

The closest car park to the theatre is the he Duke of York’s Theatre is the NCP car park at London St Martins Lane Hotel.

You can take bus lines 6, 9, 11, 13, 15, 23, 24, 29, 87, 91, 139, and from St. Martin’s Place (Stop K) and Bedford Street (Stop J)
